Things Facebook is Great For

Do you use Facebook? It’s a wonderful resource for getting in touch with people, but it also has a few other benefits. Here are some ways I’ve found Facebook to be very useful.

Reconnecting with Friends
There are some friends you just lose touch with somehow without meaning to. Maybe you don’t have time to call or email, but you do still want to know how they are doing. Facebook makes it extremely easy to reconnect, because you can easily post pictures, you write on each others walls, and you can join in a discussion with other friends.

Email
I enjoy use Facebook for emailing at times, especially when I’m away from my home computer. It’s great to retrieve messages, link to sites, and even send pictures.

Organizing a Group
Got a new group you want to get people for? Facebook is great for it, because you can set up a page, post news stories, meeting notes, and photos, and invite your friends to events. It’s a great way to get the news out without blowing a lot of marketing bucks.

Following a Favorite Celeb
When I say “celeb,” I mean someone that isn’t super famous (those people tend not to do their own pages) but someone that’s maybe a D-list celeb. Or a writer. Or someone from TV. The great part is that you can usually post something fabulous on their wall and let them know you dig them. (In a cool but not creepy way.)

Sharing Photos
Want to let the whole family see the pictures from the holidays? Facebook is a great way to do that. (Provided, of course, that everyone is on there.) Upload and everyone can comment too. Which is a bonus.

Generating Conversation
Listen, posting a link about the fact that, oh, Kurt Warner has just retired, or maybe J.D. Salinger has passed will open up conversation. You’ll find others who share the same opinions (or not) and have a merry old time chatting about it.
