Two Great DIY Valentines

If you’re haunted by Valentines of days past when you wanted to go homemade, but failed to plan, here’s your chance.

Look into your craft area (or box) for some old magazines or old red fabric if you sew. I’ve gathered a couple recycled-heart-2of my favorite online ideas for crafting a green valentine.

The first project is really perfect for a Valentine gift to kids! Ellen at the The Long Thread has the most adorable homemade fabric Valentine (pictured) that can be hugged or taken to class for show and tell.

You can find the pattern and more pictures at the post, A Recycled Valentine’s Day. I love the mismatched eyes and goofy smile!

The project is a DIY copy of the IKEA heart, which has arms. Instead of buying it, you can make your own with much more flair using the pattern at The Long Thread from Ellen.

To make your own pop-up card from old magazines, check out the video below. I found it posted at the very awesome Crafting a Green World. As Becky suggested, go with a glue stick instead of the spray adhesive shown in the video, and reuse an old mail envelope instead of a fresh one.
