Use Unwanted Hair to Clean Up the Oil Spill In the Gulf With Matter of Trust

(matteroftrust.org)

They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and the same is true for your old split ends: Human hair and pet hair are being used to clean up and contain the BP oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico, and you can send in your unwanted hair to help out.

A Matter of Trust, a San Francisco-based organization, is collecting human and pet hair clippings from individuals, salons, and professionals to use in their hair-filled buoys (pictured above), which apparently will soak up the toxic oil. We’re slightly skeeved by the hair sausage imagery, but cleaning up the Gulf is probably worth dealing with our gag reflex for a few moments.

Donating is easy: Just go to their website, tell them you’d like to donate, and they’ll email you the address of the nearest donation center. You can send in your own chopped locks or your pet’s.

This may be the only time in life to be glad your dogs and cats shed.

Yeah, it definitely looks like a nasty cigar, but what a fantastic reason to get a hair cut! Sign me up!
