Recently, there’s been a glut of research giving credence to the lesson many learn the hard way in high school – being a loser sucks. Or, on the flip side, having a strong circle of friends has very real benefits. The TimesOnline points to research that indicates friends are the most important factor to ensure a happy retirement. According to GOOD, friendship circles can prevent repeat offenses from sexual offenders. And WebMD reports on studies showing that people with large social networks outlive those with few pals. Furthering the proof of high school truisms, it seems that friendships have much more impact on longevity than relationships with family. We just wish we had had this info when our parents grounded us for talking on the phone too much. Sheesh, mom and dad, we were just trying to live longer.
