Yesterday, I was sitting at my daughter’s bedside in the hospital, with my crochet hook going like mad.
When in distress, making that hook fly is one of the best ways to calm myself down.
We were hoping that she’d be home, and were disappointed that they weren’t ready to part with her yet.
She’s so lovable that it doesn’t surprise me that they want to hold onto her, but hey, we want her back, thank you very much!
Anyhow, we were talking about projects that we were designing for Valentines Day.
I said that I had been mulling over some ideas
and I said that I was working on a little crocheted heart.
She was just about to suggest that I do that,
so we both grinned at the synchronicity.
We often will do that…
the same concept or idea will go ‘blink’
at the same time for each of us.
Hearts are one of my most favourite
motifs to design, so I sat beside her,
with pen and paper and hook and
metallic thread from Kreinik in hand…
designing these little simple hearts.
The finished size of the heart
will be determined by
the thickness of thread or
yarn and the size of the crochet
hook that you use.
In the photo, there are
3 examples of the
Crocheted Love Heart
The little pink one is approximately
1 1/4 inches square and was crocheted
with #8 Fine Braid Metallic thread from Kreinik.
I used a vintage Boye size 9 steel crochet hook.
The variegated ombre heart was worked with a vintage Boye Crochet hook #7. It’s 1 3/4 inches square.
The silver heart is made with #16 medium metallic thread braid, and I worked it with a size 0 vintage hook. It’s approximately 2 inches square.
And here is my design for the
Crocheted Love Heart Motif (c) by Noreen Crone-Findlay
Beginning with the picot at the tip of the heart, ch 4, join last ch to 1st to form the picot.
Row 1: Ch 4, 6 tr in 4th ch from hook.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in each tr (12 dc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; skip 2 dc; in next dc work (2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc); skip next 2 dc; sl st in next dc; skip 2 dc; in next dc work (2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc); skip next 2 dc; sl st in next dc; cut yarn, pull through last loop on hook. Weave in end.
And, what can you use these heart motifs for?

Very pretty. These would be terrific for applique or even for the front of a Valentine’s Day card. Thank you.

I think that there is possibly a missing skip 2 dc after the slip stitch is worked in the last row of the pattern for the start of the second lobe of the heart. Thank you for this lovely little heart pattern, I just love it. Best wishes to you and your family. I pray for a speedy recovery for your beloved daughter.
