Jennifer Aniston Says Extra Weight Spurred Pregnancy Rumors…What Weight?

jennifer anston pregnancy GQGQ‘s March issue is on newsstands, featuring Wanderlust co-stars Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd. And, like any article about Aniston that’s been published in the last ten years, the cover story inevitably get around to talking about pregnancy rumors, which she thinks may have started because she gained extra weight after quitting cigarettes. Because, you know, she just has so much extra belly fat in the photos of her her without her shirt on.

Rudd and Aniston were interviewed together, which results in a cute, funny interview. But at points, she does  put on a straight face about relationships and pregnancy rumors:

GQ: You know I’m duty-bound to ask you certain questions…
Jennifer Aniston: Me, or both of us?

GQ: More you.
Jennifer Aniston: I’m not having triplets. Not having twins. Nor am I having one baby. [lifts up sweater and gestures to belly; it appears flat] I did not elope.

GQ: You are with Justin Theroux, though? That’s the we of the dog story?
Jennifer Aniston: Yes. We got a dog.

Paul Rudd: I thought you were talking about wee, like dog pee.

GQ: How did the twins rumor get started?
Jennifer Aniston: Well, I recently quit smoking, and you do put on some extra pounds. It makes a difference, especially if you’re not 20. I think people maybe want me to have a kid now.

I’m well aware that even gaining one or two pounds can feel like a lot when you’re paying close attention to your body, diet and workout routine, as Aniston no doubt does. But she looks pretty much the complete opposite of pregnant, regardless of whether she’s really put on weight.

Does this mean that Aniston has some kind of messed-up body dysmorphia? No. But as someone who’s been in the tabloids more or less constantly for years (as she puts it: “The tabloids, instead of being about alien babies and stuff, it’s my triplets, quadruplets, marriages, feuds…”), she knows that they do. There’s an entire industry centered around parking rumors of pregnancy, eating disorders, depression and more solely on the basis of how big or small someone looks in a dress. No wonder Aniston pegs the pregnancy rumors on her phantom “extra weight.”
