Stella McCartney, one of the few successful mainstream eco-friendly designers, has been named creative director for the 2012 British Olympic team. She’ll be designing all of the athletes’ clothing and gear, as well as the fan clothing. This is pretty cool — an entire island will be sporting eco-friendly, cruelty-free gear.
So where’s our uber-green designer, U.S. Olympic Committee? We kind of dig Ralph Lauren’s super-preppy look that athletes have sported during the past few Olympics, but we’d like to see, say, John Patrick (of Organic by John Patrick) designing environmentally and ethically responsible retro-chic outfits for Team USA in 2012.
