Today, BuzzFeed brought it to everyone’s attention that Brad Fischetti, of the boy band LFO (you know that song “Summer Girls”? About having a summer fling? That was them) spends his days lingering creepily outside of a women’s health clinic in Orlando, trying to talk women out of abortions…and Tweeting about it. Not cool, guy. Not cool. More »
Between the kids, the job, the house, the growing to-do list and that Blackberry or iPhone looming over you at all times, there’s little room for romance, and even less room for actual sex. If this scenario sounds familiar to you, I hope to inspire you to think differently and to take steps to get your “mojo” back. You may even be one of the millions of adults who experience sexual dysfunction, the incidence of which appears to be at an all-time high. More »

It’s miracle that any child is born healthy, but for those children and infants who are burdened with weighty health issues, their rescue is often times even more miraculous. Such as a little 16-month-old Italian boy who, after being diagnosed with a heart muscle disease, found his way back to health via the world’s smallest artificial heart and a damn near superhero medical team. Seriously, they might as well be wearing capes as far as I’m concerned. More »
Just as Southerners sometimes say “Coke” to mean any sort of soda, you often hear the term “birth control” used to refer explicitly to the pill. Hormonal, oral contraceptives are entrenched as the go-to way to prevent pregnancy in the United States, and not without some good reasons. But long-lasting birth control methods, like IUDs and skin implants could be a better option for many women. Not only can they cut back on certain pill-related side effects, but a large new study finds women are much less likely to get pregnant using one of these instead of the birth control pill, patch or vaginal ring. If there is any wonder as to why our country has an obesity epidemic that is out of control, just look at the latest infographic from the CDC. It shows the size of a typical fast food burger in the 1950s and the size of one today. It also shows the ridiculous–and shocking–increase in the portion sizes of other restaurant foods too. The world is abuzz with Snooki‘s announcement in In Touch magazine that she is having a boy. And while that’s all well and good (she said she’d have preferred a girl, but, you know, things happen), what’s really interesting in the interview is the 24-year-old Jersey Shore star’s very refreshing honesty about her pregnant self. Thank you, Snooki, for once again being a voice of reason (file that under “Sentences I Never Thought I’d Write”). More »
Jillian Michaels announced last year that she was leaving Biggest Loser to focus on becoming a mom; now, she’s officially got her hands full with two kids: 2-year-old daughter Lukensia, adopted from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and newborn daughter Phoenix, born on May 3 to her partner Heidi Rhoades. Despite being a virgin (and wanting to stay that way until marriage), testosterone-filled guys tell Olympic track star Lolo Jones that she will run faster if she has sex. Is that just a ploy to get her into bed or does that really ring true? More »
Some people are just hateful idiots. Like Charles Worley, a senior pastor of Providence Road Baptist Church in North Carolina. In response to Obama’s approval of same-sex marriage, the Baptist pastor actually wants all gays and lesbians to be fenced in so they will eventually die off. Yes, you heard that right. And it gets worse. More »

Yesterday, I wrote about how motivation, like an upcoming vacation, can be the key to successful weight loss. But if you don’t have a trip or other event planned, how’s dramatically reducing your risk of breast cancer for a goal? According to a study by the Fred Huchinson Cancer Research Center, losing just 5% of your body weight (the healthy way–with a smart diet and plenty of exercise) can help slash your odds of developing the disease. If you’re getting ready to pack up and head to the great outdoors for Memorial Day, don’t forget the bug spray. But many commercial versions contain DEET and other eye-irritating, skin-bothering, toxic-when-swallowed ingredients that you may not want to slather on your skin. Instead, opt for a greener version with an easy-to-mix homemade insect repellent. More »
When drive home tonight, be sure to turn your music down–otherwise, your neighbors are apt to think you are an irresponsible slut who drinks too much, has unprotected sex and likes to get stoned. The 36-year-old new mother of twins who was sadly diagnosed with the flesh-eating bacteria infection is still holed up in her battle against dead tissues. Lana Kuykendall, who was admitted to the hospital a mere 11 days after giving birth, reportedly had had four surgeries as of last week. But in the few passing days, she’s managed to have even more. A new study just confirmed that the number of teens with diabetes today has increased almost 300%. Shocking, right? Of course, but equally as shocking is that not enough people in power are really doing anything about this. So here’s an idea for all the politicians out there vying for our election votes this fall: Instead of spending so much of your ill-informed time on women’s reproductive rights, how about focusing on something that really demands everyone’s attention–our kid’s health.
